Statement

https://www.dailypaintworks.co... is my website. Art is a window into harmony and color. I try to keep the pigments fresh while trying to experiment with value and composition. The process brings to me a sort of catharsis, filled with joy and tranquility. Sometimes, I will start an abstract painting by first adding dark colors. These areas establish bigger shapes, which I follow with texture and/or lines. Once these starting points are established, I fill in grays and mid-values. I tend to conclude the painting by adding highlights of the lightest and/or 'brightest bright' focal point colors. At the last, I concentrate on fine lines and details of any subject of the painting, if there is one. An important step for me is to remove myself from the granularity, and allow myself to experience the painting. I hang the painting for at least seven days in a few orientations - sideways, upside-down and right-side up - to feel the painting's composition. After allowing the mood and composition to settle for a few days, I do corrections, if needed (and usually it does). Once I am as satisfied as I can be, I seal the painting with a water-based sealer.

The inspiration for some paintings came from my love for birds. I have painted birds for a long time, and most often I paint them in watercolor. This time, I was inspired to make something more expressionistic. I have a few bird feeders in our backyard, and lots of birds come and eat there. When the day is over and these feathery friends leave at sundown, I start to wonder about their sleeping arrangements - whether it might be along the ledge of an old building or all among branches of a tall tree. I drew from these musings to create a series of abstract expressionist paintings.
